Young entrepreneurs presented their innovative ideas on Friday in Salisbury University's 11th round of the Philip E. & Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery Competition.

Aaron Hsu, an alumnus of Johns Hopkins University, won first place for his project, ClearMask, which is a transparent surgical mask designed to improve doctor-patient communication.

As the first place winner, Hsu received $30,000 to go toward the development of this mask.

Since 2013, the competition has awarded funding to individuals for their entrepreneurial enterprises. All two- and four-year college graduates who live in the mid-Atlantic region can participate in the competition.

The following individuals were also awarded funding for their projects:

  • Second place: Arion Long of Femly

  • Third place: Lisa Ball of Plum Dragon Herbs

  • Fourth place: Dan Fucich and Kelsey Abernathy of Algen Air
