Break barriers in communication.

About 466 million people in this world are deaf or hard of hearing. That’s 5% of the world’s population, and by 2050, 1 in 4 individuals will have hearing loss. The deaf and hard of hearing population and those who experience communication barriers deserve equal access.

Traditional masks can prevent the ability to see visual cues, facial expressions, and emotions. The ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks help schools, hospitals, and other entities provide clear communication for all.

“So many deaf and hard of hearing individuals have been affected by the pandemic. When we have traditional masks on, they can’t read your lips and trying to communicate with them is very difficult, almost impossible. The ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Mask has changed the whole dynamic of my patient care. I wish you could see the look on my patients’ faces when they could actually understand what I was saying!”

Are entities required to provide the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks to deaf and hard of hearing individuals?

Under Title II & Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the U.S., entities are required to provide effective accommodations upon request, including auxiliary aids. The ClearMask™ brand is an auxiliary aid.

Per the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), employers should provide face coverings to all workers at no cost, and must consider reasonable accommodations for those who require clear coverings.

Allows full visibility for optimal learning

“We knew how important it would be for our patients to still get all the visual cues and all the information from our clinicians, when they’re working on their speech goals and their language goals. We know that for our older clients, it’s so important to be able to see our faces because they might have hearing deficits. It’s important that they’re watching for our visual cues.” - University of North Dakota

Maximizes entire view of the face

“Interpreting has been my career for over twenty years. Using the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks have helped improve the ability to see all the parts of American Sign Language on my face, and it is the least I can do to make this challenging part of COVID easier!” - Kristi Livingston Vacca, interpreter

Improves access to full communication

“Wearing a face mask has become very common during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who are deaf and hard of hearing have found communication to be increasingly challenging with visual cues removed from conversations. We use the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks to ensure nothing is lost in translation during every patient appointment.” - Aurora Audiology LLC

Removes communication barriers

“Receiving and sharing information is essential to learning, exchanging ideas, expressing feelings, and forming relationships. Regular masks are a major obstacle for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and the people they are communicating with. The ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks has worked wonders for our families. ⁣⁣⁣A big thank you to ClearMask and everyone committed to overcoming barriers and making communication accessible for all!” - CODA Connections

Is the ClearMask™ a face shield?

No, the ClearMask™ brand produces transparent surgical masks and transparent face masks, which offer distinctly different protection than transparent face shields. The CDC does not recommend using face shields or goggles as a substitute for masks. For more information about the differences between surgical masks, face masks, and face shields, please view the CDC guidelines. The ClearMask™ brand does not make transparent face shields, only transparent surgical masks and transparent face masks that cover the wearer’s mouth and nose when worn properly.
